Baltic Dry Index Holds Steady
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, a key indicator for freight rates of ships transporting dry commodities, remained steady at 1,261 points on Tuesday. Gains in smaller vessel categories counterbalanced the decline observed in larger vessels. Notably, the panamax index, which typically monitors vessels hauling 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grains, increased by 1.5%, reaching its highest level since April 7 at 1,292 points. Similarly, the supramax index advanced to its highest since April 8, registering a 0.4% increase to 954 points. In contrast, the capesize index, associated with vessels carrying approximately 150,000-ton loads of commodities such as iron ore and coal, declined by 17 points, or 1%, settling at 1,661 points.
