Cyprus Retail Sales Growth at 3-Month High
In February 2025, retail sales in Cyprus saw a 4.7% increase year-on-year, recovering from a previous six-month low of a 2.6% rise in January. This represents the strongest growth in retail activity since November 2024. The growth was primarily driven by increased sales in several sectors: food, beverages, and tobacco in non-specialized stores rose by 5.1%, up from 3.5% in January; ICT equipment sales surged to 11.7%, compared to 2.8% previously; and clothing and footwear sales climbed to 9.6% from 4.2%. Additionally, cultural and recreational goods experienced a significant jump to 17.8% from 12.6%. Sales also rebounded in specialized stores for food, beverages, and tobacco, rising to 1.8% compared to a decline of 1.0% earlier. Other household equipment saw a 3.0% increase after a previous decrease of 1.3%, while the sale of pharmaceuticals, orthopedic goods, and cosmetics improved slightly to 0.1% from a decline of 1.3%. On the other hand, the growth in automotive fuel trade slowed significantly, dropping to 0.3% from 3.7%. For the year to date, retail sales have advanced by 3.7%.
