East Timor Inflation Rate at 7-Month High
In March 2025, East Timor experienced a year-on-year increase of 0.8% in its Consumer Price Index (CPI), marking the end of a four-month downward trend. The key contributors to this inflationary pressure were notably higher costs in several sectors: healthcare services saw a rise of 3%, up from February's 2.3%; food and non-alcoholic beverages experienced a significant increase to 1.3% from a mere 0.1%; housing costs rose to 0.7% from a previous -0.6%; alcoholic beverages and tobacco prices edged up to 0.1% from -1.7%; and furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance recorded a shift to 0.5% from 0%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices climbed by 0.8% in March, accelerating from a modest 0.1% in February.
