South Africa Building Plans Slump in February
In February 2025, the value of building plan approvals in South Africa's major municipalities fell by 9% year-on-year, reaching ZAR 8.2 billion. This decrease follows a notable 33.2% increase in January, marking the first downturn since November 2024 and the most significant in eight months. The decline was primarily due to a substantial 32% reduction in residential building permits, compared to a 19.7% decrease in January. Conversely, non-residential building permits saw a 40.6% rise, a slowdown from the previous month's 83.7% increase, while permits for additions and alterations climbed by 4.8%, down from a 35.3% growth in January.
