US Futures Lower as Traders Await Tariffs
Stock futures in the United States experienced a downturn on Wednesday, with S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 contracts declining by 1.2%, while the Dow Jones dropped more than 300 points. Investors remained anxious as they awaited President Donald Trump's impending tariff announcement. Speculation continues that President Trump might impose a broad 20% tariff on most imports; however, the extent and specifics of these duties remain unclear. The White House has indicated that such tariffs would be enacted immediately, but emphasized that Trump is amenable to further dialogues. In other economic news, the ADP report revealed an unexpected increase of 155,000 jobs in the private sector for March, significantly surpassing the anticipated 105,000 and the previous month's 84,000. Conversely, the JOLTS report from the previous day indicated a drop in available positions to a lower-than-expected 7.57 million. In corporate news, major technology stocks were trending lower before the market opened, with Apple down 0.9%, Microsoft 1.2%, Nvidia 2%, Amazon 1.8%, Meta 1.6%, Alphabet 1.2%, and Tesla 2.6%.
