Argentina Trade Surplus Marks a Yearly High

In July 2025, Argentina experienced a trade surplus of USD 0.988 billion, a reduction from USD 1.459 billion in the previous year. Nevertheless, this figure represents the highest surplus for the year and exceeds market forecasts of USD 0.690 billion. The increase in imports, totaling USD 6.738 billion, was primarily fueled by substantial growth in capital goods (up 51.9%), consumer goods (up 47.6%), passenger motor vehicles (up 135.3%), and parts and accessories for capital goods (up 19.4%). In contrast, imports of intermediate goods decreased by 5.6%, and those of fuel and lubricants fell by 25.1%. On the export front, there was a 7.5% increase to USD 7.727 billion, attributable to a significant rise in primary products (up 22.8%) and industrial manufactures (up 4.7%). This growth was partially driven by a 5.3% uptick in agro-industrial manufactures, although it was somewhat mitigated by a 9.7% decline in fuels and energy. Cumulatively through July 2025, the trade surplus amounted to USD 3.750 billion, a significant drop from the USD 12.201 billion recorded during the same timeframe in 2024.
