Ibovespa Tops 141,000 as Banks and Energy Lead
The Ibovespa index rose by over 1%, surpassing 141,000 points on Thursday. This uptick was fueled by optimism surrounding President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's upcoming interview, a central bank event, and the Federal Police's operations targeting fraud within the fuel sector. Internationally, Nvidia's impressive 56% revenue increase, which surpassed Wall Street expectations, was somewhat tempered by limited sales in China. Domestically, financial institutions such as Itaú Unibanco (+0.7%), Banco do Brasil (+0.7%), and Bradesco (+1.2%), along with major companies like Petrobras (+0.5%), Vale (+1%), and retailers including Azza (+2.3%) and Ultrapar (+6.1%), were at the forefront of market gains. Restrictions imposing a 50% tariff on Petrobras diesel exports to the US bolstered energy retailers Vibra (+4.4%), Ultrapar, and Raízen (+6.6%), which expanded their market share in July and are poised for potentially robust Q3 financial results, as per BTG Pactual's analysis.
