These meetings, occurring during Bessent's trip to Spain and Britain from September 12–18, will also address TikTok's status and collaborative efforts to fight money laundering. This meeting represents the fourth significant in-person engagement between Bessent and He in 2025, as both nations strive to maintain a delicate trade agreement that has seen the reduction of retaliatory tariffs and the resumption of Chinese rare earth exports to the U.S. The Treasury characterized these talks as part of ongoing efforts to "responsibly manage strategic competition."
