Thailand Personal Spending Stalls in August
In August 2025, private consumption in Thailand remained unchanged from the previous month, after experiencing a 0.2% decline in July. Expenditure on services saw an uptick, especially in the sectors of hotels, restaurants, and transportation, buoyed by both domestic and international tourism, alongside the influence of the "Thai Half-Half Travel" campaign. Additionally, spending on non-durable goods increased, influenced by higher fuel sales corresponding with heightened transport activity. Conversely, expenditure on durable goods fell, as consumers delayed purchases in anticipation of promotions and the unveiling of new models at the Motor Expo. Similarly, consumption of semi-durable goods decreased, attributed to a decline in textile and apparel imports. Meanwhile, consumer confidence continued to diminish, affected by political instability, persistent Thai-Cambodian border tensions, uncertainties in global trade, and a sluggish economic recovery.
