The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the Euro Area stood at 6.3% in April 2026, unchanged from the previous month but slightly above market expectations of 6.2%. The number of unemployed declined by 84,000 from March, to 11.075 million people. Youth unemployment also improved, slipping to 14.7% from 15.1% a month earlier, with 2.337 million people under the age of 25 out of work. Among the bloc’s largest economies, Spain (10.3%), France (8.2%), and Italy (5.1%) posted the highest unemployment rates, while Germany (3.8%) and the Netherlands (3.9%) recorded the lowest. Compared with a year earlier, the overall jobless rate remained unchanged at 6.3%. Across the broader European Union, the unemployment rate was 6.0% in April.
