Australia Employment Hits Fresh Peak
In April 2025, Australia's employment figures soared by 89,000, reaching a historic high of 14.64 million, significantly outpacing the anticipated increase of 20,000. This rise represents the third monthly gain this year and follows a revised upward increase of 36,400 in March. Full-time employment saw a notable climb of 59,500, hitting an unprecedented level of 10.07 million, recovering from a previously downwardly adjusted growth of 12,200 in the prior month. Part-time positions also experienced growth, with an addition of 29,500 jobs, reaching a record 4.57 million and surpassing the revised 24,200 gain from March. This substantial employment growth spurred a 0.3 percentage point rise in the employment-to-population ratio, bringing it to 64.4%, just below the record 64.5% level set in January. Over the 12 months leading up to April, total employment expanded by 389,800, reflecting a 2.7% growth rate, which outperformed the 2.1% population growth for individuals aged 15 and older.
