Australia Jobless Rate Matches Estimates

In April 2025, Australia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady at 4.1%, aligning with market forecasts and showing no change from the previous month. The unemployed population saw an increase of 6,300 to reach 621,100. Of this number, individuals seeking full-time employment rose by 9,300 to 433,000, while those pursuing part-time positions decreased by 2,900 to 188,100. Employment overall surged by 89,000, achieving a record high of 14.64 million, greatly exceeding the anticipated increase of 20,000 and following a revised 36,400 rise in March. Specifically, full-time employment climbed by 59,500 to an all-time high of 10.07 million, and part-time jobs increased by 29,500, reaching a peak of 4.57 million. The participation rate advanced to 67.1%, the highest in three months, up from 66.8% in March and outperforming predictions of 66.8%. The underemployment rate slightly ascended to 6.0% from 5.9%. Additionally, the total number of monthly hours worked across all jobs rose by 1 million, reaching 1,964 million.
