Soybeans Rise on Strong Exports and Crop Tour Results

Soybean futures experienced an upswing to $10.33 per bushel, boosted by short covering and bargain buying following previous price declines that renewed interest in the market. Additionally, robust export demand provided further impetus; the USDA disclosed net new-crop U.S. soybean export sales amounting to 2.05 million metric tons for the week concluded on August 14, significantly surpassing trade expectations which ranged between 400,000 and 1 million tons. Crop scouts from the Pro Farmer Midwest tour reported higher than average yield potential in regions such as Illinois and western Iowa, with additional findings anticipated from ongoing assessments in eastern Iowa and Minnesota. Pro Farmer is scheduled to publish its final crop outlook this Friday. Concurrently, U.S. soybean producers are urging the government to address the trade deadlock with China, suggesting diplomatic measures that could potentially reignite Chinese demand for American soybeans. Notably, the 2025/26 U.S. soybean crop has yet to receive any pre-purchases from China, as the country shifts its procurement focus towards Brazil.
