Baltic Dry Index Halts 5-Day Gain
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, an indicator that measures the rates for shipping dry commodities, ended its five-day upward trend on Thursday with a slight decline of approximately 0.1%, settling at 2,111 points. This decrease was primarily influenced by the larger vessel segment. Specifically, the capesize index, which is responsible for transporting cargoes of around 150,000 tons such as iron ore and coal, saw a reduction of about 1%, falling to 3,041 points, possibly reflecting the dip in iron ore prices. Conversely, the panamax index, which transports 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by approximately 1.2%, reaching its highest level in over a year at 1,998 points. Additionally, the supramax index experienced an increase of 0.4%, reaching 1,484 points.
